THE MOUNTAIN RESCUE DOG: A ROLLERCOASTER OF A STORY

It’s a nervous time waiting for the first review of your new book to come in. There’s always some pacing, a little bit of sleeplessness and lots of nail biting. I would like to give huge thanks to the lovely Emma Suffield for reading and reviewing The Mountain Rescue Dog. You can find this and many more fantastic book reviews at emmasuffield.wordpress.com

Here’s what she said:

Well what a rollercoaster of a story that was, I think I experienced every emotion possible whilst reading this book. The Mountain Rescue Dog is a perfect heart-warming animal story which is full of adventure, hope and celebrates the wonderful bond children have with their pets. As well as covering themes of grief and loss this fabulous story also deals with how the impact of a loved one can affect the dynamics of family life. Not many books have me in tears but this story broke me, but in a good way, I was sucked into Clova’s life and the possibilities and hope and dreams she had to keep her mum’s memories alive. The bond between her and Tatty is just magical and one that many readers will be able to relate to.

Based in the snowy Highlands of Scotland, The Mountain Rescue Dog, also teaches about the importance of walking in the wilderness, countryside and mountainous areas and the dangerous that adventurers face. As a walker who spent most of her time in The Lake District as a child this is something I could relate to quickly as I know how quickly the weather can change. The dangers are something that should be taught from a young age and this story helps with this. The work our mountain rescue workers do and the time they give up to save lives is something that should be talked about more as I think it can be taken for granted but to showcase the importance of the mountain rescue dog in this story is powerful. Some lives couldn’t be saved without these wonderful people and their furry companions.

The Mountain Rescue Dog is a story I will be recommending for a very long time. I read it in 24 hours. It is fast-paced, gripping and will have you wanting to turn the pages quicker and quicker. It is perfect for any lovers of animal adventure stories including fans of Michael Morpurgo and will make a perfect addition to any KS2/KS3 school library. I loved it!
